Dating geeks and nerds?

Posted August 1st, 2011 by admin and filed in Q & A Dating Geeks

I am very interested in dating "geeks" and "nerds".

I’m looking for the bookish type, someone who is into the latest technology, maybe even a gamer.

I have no idea where to meet these types of men though.

i apologize if anyone is offended by these stereotypical labels. I just don’t know a better way to put it :)

Ladies who date geeks, what do you like most about them?

Posted August 1st, 2011 by admin and filed in Q & A Dating Geeks

After having read a close-minded, rude article on why geeks make the best boyfriends, I wanted to do some digging and find out why girls REALLY date geeks. Ladies, fire away! The more specific, the better!
I tend to gravitate towards geeks myself, but I want to see who else had something to say about it :)

Why is it hard for programmer geeks to get a date?

Posted August 1st, 2011 by admin and filed in Q & A Dating Geeks

I seem to intimidate men, but I am really gentle pussycat. I am 6′ tall, make a good living, yet it is difficult to find someone who is at ease and normal.

Online Dating – Geeks

Posted March 26th, 2011 by admin and filed in Dating Geeks

Online Dating - Geeks

Hey, there is geek in all of us – just some more than others.  Be truthful here – don’t you relate to Sheldon in the Big Bang Theory in some way?   Many do – otherwise why did the actor who portrayed him recently win an Emmy award?

So what defines a geek – it’s a slang term and is often interchanged with “nerd” whose “revenge” we enjoyed in that popular film franchise (Revenge of the Nerds) way back in the eighties.

Perhaps Wikipedia puts it succinctly:

“a peculiar or otherwise odd person, especially one who is perceived to be overly obsessed with one or more things including those of intellectuality, electronics, etc.”

This may be somewhat stereotypical but consensus would tell us that geeks may have superior intelligence than others but that this is not necessarily matched with what modern sociologists would call “emotional intelligence”.

Accordingly, to cater for this type of person, there are dating sites devoted to what is termed “geek dating“.  The existence of these sites may imply that geeks seek only geeks but this is not necessarily always the case.

So if you are a geek seeking a connection with someone whose IQ may tip in another direction, then keep the following in mind, whether you are male or female:

1 Dress appropriately – for your profile picture and later when you meet offline.  Big Bang Theory T Shirts, jeans, jean shorts, flip flops may portray a little immaturity.  Lose the loose beard, lose the mustache (leave that to the famous Mexican artist, Frida Kahlo, girls) and look “adult”.

2 How we present ourselves reflects how we feel about ourselves so don’t burden your date with conundrums about Einstein not solving the theory of the universe yet he was so close and that Hawking isn’t quite making the grade either.  Do we care?

3 Keep up to date with modern pop culture (and Star Trek doesn’t count …).  Most girls are into pop culture – so see reality shows, read the latest gossip columns, Perez Hilton type blogs, listen to the latest music, acquaint yourself with modern music genres in addition to the mathematical precision of a J S Bach contrapuntal.

4 Extend your human contact beyond chatting with video game mates (World of Warcraft and suchlike).  Take time off from the video game controller and get out of your comfort zone and initiate contact through your geek dating site.  Forget your gamer score for awhile.

5 Don’t stay indoors all the time.  Get out, take time out, think, reflect and meet. Get out of your comfort zone and initiate contact with others.  These could be old school buddies, neighbors and so on.  You never know, they may pave the way for you to meet your eventual soulmate, geek or non-geek.  Go to your local mall, Starbucks, bookshop, park – wherever – but lose your laptop and iPod when doing so.  See the real world for awhile.  This will help you enormously when you venture into online dating on your geek dating site.  You will have greater self-confidence (emotional intelligence) to initiate real contact.

6 Be yourself, don’t try to change who you really are.  Just give others a chance to see and meet you, that’s all.  Listen, don’t speak geek all the time, show a genuine (and I mean GENUINE) interest in others.  In this way your contact will see you for the person you are first and then accept the geek in you.  You never know, that person may be cleverer than you in many other ways.  Accept this.   You are not in a WOW contest here.

In conclusion, keep mind that geek dating is like any other type of dating, it’s about meeting and relating with others.
